Liudmyla Kucherova: “Quick assessment of damage and proper support of repair work on destroyed objects allow us to restore the infrastructure promptly.”

The main task of the Mykolaiv Linear Production Department of Main Gas Pipelines (LPDMG) of the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) is to transport natural gas to the South of Ukraine. Despite constant shelling, this unit continues to work and provide natural gas to consumers in the south. That is why it is so important that the LPDMG facilities function continuously and, if necessary, promptly carry out restoration work.

The team of Mykolaiv LPDMG, with the participation of capital construction engineers such as Liudmyla Kucherova, is starting work on restoration. They respond to calls promptly and take the necessary measures to restore the infrastructure in case of damage.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than 500 attacks have been recorded in the Mykolaiv region, more than a hundred of them in the city of Mykolaiv and its surroundings. Despite the regular bombardment and all the difficulties related to them, Liudmyla Kucherova continued to fulfill her duties: she visited the gas distribution stations (GDS) almost immediately after the missile strikes, inspected and quickly assessed the damage caused by enemy fire, and professionally accompanied the repair works on objects.

Since June 2022, Liudmyla Kucherova has supervised the subcontractors that perform restoration works at the Mykolaiv industrial site and gas distribution stations. Liudmyla notes: “Quick assessment of damage and proper support of repair works on destroyed objects allow us to restore the infrastructure promptly.” She adds: “Without the support provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through its Energy Security Project, which includes both technical expertise and the necessary resources, the recovery would have been much slower.”

The safety and stability of the Ukrainian gas transportation system and the speed of restoration of critical infrastructure facilities directly depend on the professionalism and dedication of such specialists as Liudmyla Kucherova. For all 25 years of her work, Liudmyla adhered to the principle that “my home and my country are my fortress, which everyone must protect by fulfilling professional duties every day, no matter what.” After the victory, Lyudmyla dreams of getting together with her family, going to her favorite sea, and sleeping soundly without waking up from the wailing of sirens.
