The USAID Energy Security Project (ESP) welcomes the Verkhovna Rada’s registration of Draft Law No. 12087 “On Amendments to the Laws of Ukraine Regarding the Coupling of the Electricity Markets of Ukraine and the European Union.”
This Draft Law aims to transpose the Electricity Integration Package (EIP) into Ukrainian law.
The development and registration of the Draft Law in the Verkhovna Rada are important steps towards the transposition of the European acquis into Ukrainian legislation.
Its prompt adoption is key for Ukraine to fulfil its obligations under the Association Agreement with the European Union and the Energy Community Treaty.
The Draft Law contains key provisions to synchronize Ukraine’s electricity market with the EU’s internal energy market, while also enhancing competitiveness, transparency, and security in the energy sector.
USAID ESP is ready to provide expert support to the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy, Housing, and Utilities in preparing the Draft Law for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada to ensure that it complies with relevant EU norms and considers the needs of Ukraine’s energy sector.
Reforming Ukraine’s electricity sector is critical to strengthening the country’s energy security, improving energy market performance, and facilitating deeper integration with the EU.
