Last winter, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) transferred 137 generators worth about 40 million UAH to CU Kyivteploenergo (KTE), helping this Communal Utility to get ready for the first challenging winter during the war.
This assistance, provided through the USAID Energy Security Project, ensured an uninterrupted operation of heat-generating equipment in 38 boiler houses and helped to supply heat and hot water to 160 residential buildings, 30 hospitals, 25 schools and kindergartens, and 220 departmental buildings in Kyiv.
During the upcoming heating season, KTE plans to use 41 out of the 137 previously provided generators to support the operation of 41 boiler houses, making it possible to keep heat and hot water flowing to 182 residential buildings, 30 hospitals, 12 schools, and 13 kindergartens, and 224 departmental buildings in Ukraine’s capital.
The remaining generators will allow KTE’s emergency crews to repair the capital’s damaged heat networks and backup power supply to KTE’s operations and dispatching facilities.
Thanks to USAID’s support, KTE keeps its heat-generating facilities working and continues providing heat and hot water to Kyivans despite new Russian targeted attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure this autumn.
